So, the CAS group has been helping raise funds for GO! International throughout the year. This time was no different, where a group of us volunteered to help Amanda Furst with her benefit concert at the West End Cultural Center on April 29th. I've been to concerts at the WECC before, but this was definitely a unique experience. Lexi and I were one of the first volunteers to arrive, and we volunteered for the ticket booth. As we waited for doors to open (or for us to open the doors, anyways) we perused some of the art that Westwood students made and were auctioning off. I'm always so blown away with the talent and creativity of some fellow students, and this time was no different! There were paintings, jewelry, and sculptures- needless to say that the silent auction tickets were selling fast!
Once the doors opened to the crowd, Lexi and I holed up in our little booth; taking tickets and money. There were a few times when there was a discrepancy between "early tickets" and "at-the-door tickets", but the whole process ran smoothly for the most part. What was difficult was when the show started and Lexi and I remained in our booth while waiting for some stragglers. While we were sort of doubtful that people would come an hour late, there were actually a handful! In the end, however, we were able to watch The Crooked Brothers perform. As a huge fan of laid-back indie tunes, I definitely enjoyed their music as well as their stage presence.
The end of the night (around 11 pm) signaled the end of a a very successful event. The event brought in $5000 dollars, with all proceeds going towards Hero Home (the project of GO!). As you can see from the picture below, nights like this one is why I list volunteering as one of my main activities- good music, good friends, and a night to remember... all while helping out for an awesome cause!
CAS Components:
