For Love of the Arts

In February, Westwood Collegiate hosts a huge event featuring all its art students; choral, dance, visual arts, etc. While I'm not one myself, I definitely love to go out to support all my talented friends who are showcased. The day of the event however, I was hanging out in the library with a couple of friends when the principal, Mr.Wake, and Mrs. McCorquodale-Bauer (one of my favorite people, ever) goes in and asks for volunteers for 50/50 tickets. Naturally, I say yes for two reasons; one, I can never say no and two, I've never actually sold 50/50 tickets!

Well what can I say? FLOTA was yet another hugely successful event. The thing about Westwood art events is that these are not merely mandatory recitals. FLOTA especially, showcases the high-caliber talent and creativity of Westwood students. People go because they want to go, which definitely helps as it is one of the main fundraisers for the Arts Council. Thus, I found 50/50 ticket selling a breeze. I'm not generally a loud person, but I enjoyed clanging around a coffee tin yelling, "50/50 HERE!". Personally, I thought the tickets were a tad expensive, ($2 a ticket!) but between me and 3 other volunteers, we charmed most of the crowd into investing into our coffee tin.
